Remote Control

View all computers in the facility or in just one group. See the current status of each computer (Down due to maintenance, Free and available for use, computer is in Transition rebooting or during a patron login or logout, or patron computer is currently In Use). Commands can be sent to a single selected computer, multiple selected computers, or all computers.

Refresh The screen automatically refreshes every 60 seconds. Force an immediate Refresh of the Staff Remote Control screen to view the current status of all patron computers.
Log a user onto a selected PC Log a patron onto a selected computer. Staff can use a patron's real credentials or any sequence of letters and/or numbers.
Extend a user session Extend a patron session by any amount of time.
Capture a screenshot of patron screen Capture a screenshot of the currently selected patron screen. The image is saved in the admin settings folder. The image is embossed with the date, time, computer, and patron identifier.
Log a user out and end the session Log a patron out and end the patron computer session. The computer will be cleaned and restored. The Login screen will appear and the computer is ready for the next patron to Login.
Stop CYBRARIAN on patron computer Stop CYBRARIAN® software running on the selected patron computer. This is usually performed so that IT staff can access a patron computer for maintenance and updates.
Assign a patron to the QUEUE Waiting list Assign a patron to the CYBRARIAN® Queue waiting list.
Send a message to one or more users Send a message to one or more selected patron computers. Messages are available from a predefined list. Staff can also create their own text for messages 'on-the-fly'.
Reboot the selected PC Reboot the selected computer.
Shutdown the selected PC Shutdown the selected computer.
Print Job settings Override the print settings for the next print job created on the selected patron computer. Print Job Overrides can be applied to price and/or quantity settings.
Chat/Connect to patron computer Connect to the selected patron computer to initiate a chat session, or to respond to a patron request for assistance, or to take control of a patron computer keyboard and mouse while viewing the patron screen as a sizable window on the Staff Remote Control screen.
Show/Hide Down Toggles the display of patron computers with a current status of 'Down'.
Show/Hide Free Toggles the display of patron computers with a current status of 'Free'.
Show/Hide Transition Toggles the display of patron computers with a current status of 'Transition'.
Show/Hide In Use Toggles the display of patron computers with a current status of 'In Use'.
Show/Hide Legend Show/Hide the patron status legend. Up to 10 different icons can be assigned to different patron types.

  • Search Type: Select a search method. The most common option is a Barcode search.
  • Search Criteria: Enter one or more barcodes. A search is a partial match. For example, if you enter "123", the results will contain all barcodes containing 123.
  • Search Results: Any barcodes matching the search criteria will be displayed. Select a result to display information the right side of the screen.
  • First Name: If you require a user to enter in First/Last Name at login, the first name will be displayed here.
  • Last Name: If you require a user to enter in First/Last Name at login, the last name will be displayed here.
  • Login: The time the user logged in.
  • Logout: The time the user Logged out.
    Note: If the user has not logged out of their session, the logout time will reflect their original login time. If a user has logged out of their session, then the logout time will reflect the time that they logged out.
  • Time Used: The total minutes the user has been logged in today.
  • Login Status:True = they are currently logged in
    False = they are not currently logged in.
  • Reset Time: Click to reset the user's time for the day back to 0 minutes.
  • Reset Status: If a user failed to logout properly (the computer locked up, there was a power surge, etc.), login status will appear as True. You can log them out manually by clicking this button, and the Login Status will change to False.
